Contemporary Black and White Scheme in Surbition
Before
The Brief
A very talented property developer in Surbiton asked me to design a front and rear garden for a stunning period house decorated with modern twists. The client wanted a sharp, black and white formal scheme.
The Design
Black limestone was used throughout for the hard landscaping, on both the drive and the rear patio, and the garden fences were painted black. In the rear we planted stunning white single stem Silver Birch around the edges, to lighten the dark background, along with plenty of variegation such as Pittosporums. Grasses were intermingled with huge white hydrangeas, and pops of perennial colour. The lawn was a quandrant shape, surrounded with low yew hedging and lollipop viburnums for a formal feel.
At the front, black cobble size limestone was used to create gorgeous circles in the drive, either side of a silver granite path. Under each bay window was a formal mix of low box hedging, tall Yew cones and large white Hydrangeas, Agapanthus and variegated Pittosporums.
The end result was truly stunning.
